Phishing scams trick you into revealing sensitive information by pretending to be legitimate entities. To protect yourself:
- Always verify the sender before clicking links or downloading attachments.
- Look for spelling errors and unusual sender addresses.
- Enable multi-factor authentication (MFA) for added security.
- Never provide personal information via email or messages.
To create a strong password:
Use a mix of uppercase, lowercase, numbers, and symbols.
Avoid using common words or personal information.
Use unique passwords for each account.
Consider using a password manager to store and generate secure passwords.
Before entering personal information on a website:Check for "https://" in the URL—this indicates a secure connection.Look for signs of legitimacy, such as company contact details and trust seals.Be cautious of pop-ups asking for sensitive information.Avoid downloading files from untrusted sources.
If you suspect your device has been compromised:Disconnect from the internet to prevent further damage.Run a full scan using updated antivirus software.Change your passwords, especially for sensitive accounts.Check for unauthorized activity in your online accounts.If necessary, seek help from a cybersecurity professional.
