Cyber Safety Pasifika (CSP), part of the AFP’s Pacific Police Development Program – Regional (PPDP-R), has delivered its first regional Cybercrime Awareness and Education (CAE) program in Niue.
From 25 to 29 November 2024, Pacific police officers from Fiji, Niue, Tonga, Samoa and Vanuatu participated in the CAE program.
Holding the training in Niue is part of the regional-delivery model that has been a defining feature of CSP’s success.
Police officers are nominated by their Police Chiefs based on their experience and ability to engage in community outreach. Participants are provided with cybercrime education and presentation skills. The training also sets the conditions to develop collaborative police-to-police networks.
As a Pacific Islands Chiefs of Police (PICP) program, CSP brings together a highly skilled set of presenters, together with a Pacific police co-presenter from the American Samoa Department of Public Safety. This CSP program was sponsored and delivered by the Australian Federal Police (AFP) in conjunction with strategic partners New Zealand Police and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
CSP facilitates a significant uplift in Pacific police officer skills to raise cyber awareness and education in schools, among elders and for community groups. Bringing officers from Pacific police services together in CSP programs builds people-to-people connections and creates a cyber workforce network.
CSP programs support knowledge sharing initiatives among Pacific countries and provide an opportunity for members to look within the region to support capacity building, which aligns with the stated aims of the Pacific Islands Chiefs of Police.
